Online Poker - The Itch

Online poker… is such a nice distraction for those you who work for somebody else. For the poker addicts, the closest casino can be merely a click away or a day trip. I would be willing to bet $1000 that anyone who works at a boring desk job who possesses the poker “itch” can be found secretly playing his or her favorite online poker game when the boss is not around.

We all need something to pass the time. Online poker is merely a teaser though. I think a part of all of us has a poker player deep down inside. Real casino’s are like an organism, they are alive, and breathing, with an energy all their own. It’s invigorating.

Casino gambling brings out that gambler we all possess inside of us. Why else would the lottery be so popular? In the hopes to hit that big jackpot… to be the poker stars or lotto winners we all dreamed we could be someday? Unfortunately, for most of us that is just a dream. But we keep the dream alive and the poker chips moving and the lottery tickets still pile up.

In a casino hotel, you are taunted with every gambling sensory stimulus you can imagine. Even ones you can’t imagine. From obnoxious flashing lights, to music, to the staff who is more than willing to help you lose your money to the casino by catering to your every whim to keep you in the building. We all have our lucky streaks though; I think they come in threes. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen any threes lately.

In a poker game, the odds are stacked against you in a casino. The house odds are such that, they are there to make money. It’s a business, and a very lucrative one at that. We are there to spend our money and have a good time. Every once in a while we get lucky and that’s what the lure of gambling does… it keeps us coming back for more.

My flat Irish buttocks would be on the next plane to Atlantic City, or the closest casino, if I had the money to waste on gambling at a resort casino. It sure beats online gambling. Maybe I need to find a job with a government agency so I can play online poker and still get a paycheck.

I have friends who are comped luxurious rooms because they spend serious money gambling at a resort casino. Unfortunately they also lose it. But hey, they sure had some serious fun playing poker and maybe one day, be in the world series of poker. There is nothing wrong with having attractive women feed you free drinks all night in the casino hotel making your wives jealous only to head back to that luxurious room with your significant other.
